Killruddery House
The estate at Killruddery was created in about 1618 by Edward Brabazon, first Lord Ardee, in a valley beneath the Little Sugarloaf mountain to the south of Bray in County Wicklow. His grandson, the second Earl of Meath, began the present house in the late seventeenth century, replacing an earlier dwelling that had been destroyed by fire. In the 1820s the tenth earl remodelled and extended the house in an elaborate Tudor-Revival style but Killruddery was dramatically reduced in size after World War II. The superb French formal gardens were designed by a disciple of le Nôtre and are among the foremost seventeenth century gardens in these islands.
